Preserving Our Heritage Since 1979
School Museum
St Peter’s Girls’ School Museum aims to preserve records and artefacts that illustrate the origins, development and continuing history of the School.
The material held in our Museum offers a rich and meaningful insight into the history and heritage of the School.
In 1979, a small group of Old Scholars sought to establish an Old Scholars’ Museum and called for donations of memorabilia connected to the School’s history. Their efforts led to the creation of a modest museum in an available space.
In 1990, a purpose-built School Museum was established as part of the Chiverton extensions, incorporating both a display room and an archive. More recently, the display space has undergone a significant refurbishment.
Today, the Museum houses a rich collection of uniforms that reflect the evolution of the School’s identity over time, alongside Yearbooks and other publications that capture the stories, achievements and daily life of students across generations.
Also preserved are perpetual trophies, both academic and sporting, that are no longer awarded, each representing longstanding traditions and celebrating the accomplishments of students from earlier eras. The collection is further enriched by a wide array of photographs documenting significant moments, milestones and community life, as well as School and Old Scholar memorabilia that honour the enduring connection between past and present members of the community.
If you would like to contact our School Archivist, Simone McAuliffe, you are welcome to email her via [email protected] or ring the School to arrange a visit to the Museum. We also welcome donations of school photos and other historical artefacts for the heritage collection.
