Saints Performing Arts Academy

An academy of excellence hosted at St Peter’s Girls’ School

The Saints Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) is an exciting new initiative of St Peter’s Girls’ School open to young Adelaide performers.

This elite skill based after school programme, housed in the new Arts Centre at St Peter’s Girls’ School, is open to boys and girls from Years 6 to 11 in the three main Performing Arts disciplines of Dance, Drama and Music.

Students will receive world class instruction from leading Performing Arts professionals associated with companies such as The Australian Dance Theatre, State Theatre Company, Leigh Warren and Dancers, Elder Conservatorium of Music and the Adelaide Centre for the Arts.

The programme will not only expose the SPAA participants to professional standards and expertise, but will also assist the students to prepare for senior secondary studies in Dance, Drama or Music.

The following curriculum will be offered in the three programme disciplines throughout the year;

Semester One

Dance

Dance students will develop their performance skills through participation in three, six week blocks of technique classes, one in each of the following dance genre:

Contemporary
Classical
Jazz

Drama

Drama students will build their theatre skills through a variety of workshops in areas such as:

Voice control/Projection
Script Interpretation
Physical Theatre
Character Development

Music

Music students will develop their skills through participation in a broad range of music experiences including:

Performance and Practice Techniques
Song Writing
Music Technology

Semester Two

All SPAA students will come together in the latter stage of the year to produce an annual SPAA Celebration of the Arts. In preparation, students will learn about working with sound and technical theatre equipment and create an integrated performance work with an Artist in Residence.

The SPAA will operate during term time each year from the second week of Term 1 until the middle of Term 4. The programme will offer one, two hour session per week from 4.30 – 6.30pm on a Wednesday evening.

The cost for participation in the programme is $330 per Term for 3 Terms.

While the SPAA is primarily open to middle school aged students, younger students who display strong skills and talent will be considered.

Students of the SPAA will be required to purchase a black SPAA polo shirt (which can be worn with ‘leggings’ for dance, and/or jeans for drama and music).

Auditions

Each year entry for the SPAA will be through an audition process held in mid November. Auditions are open to students, including males and the wider community, from Years 6 to 11.
