Tennyson Medal awarded to Saints

The SACE Merit Ceremony has been held this morning at Government House with another outstanding achievement by St Peter’s Girls’ School. 13 of our students from the Class of 2015 received awards today, including Theodora Galanis (Kilburn ’15) and Thenu Herath (Patteson ’15) who both received five merits and have been awarded Governor of South Australia Commendations.

IMG_5556Theodora Galanis was also awarded the Tennyson Medal, recognising the highest mark in English Studies, a subject that focuses on an understanding of ourselves through literature and the ability to express ourselves through speaking and writing.

The achievement is an exciting one, as it’s the fourth time the Tennyson Medal has been awarded to a student from Saints. This is the first time that has been achieved since the Medal was first awarded over 100 years ago.

Theodora said “When I received the call about the Tennyson Medal, I was in total shock. I know a few girls who have won the award in past years, and while admiring their achievements I never considered ever winning it myself – so yes, I am very honoured and humbled to receive the medal.”

Following Theodora’s overall ATAR of 99.85, she has this advice for those embarking on Year 12 studies, “It is that it’s ok to have a break! You really don’t have to cut off all extra curricular activities to focus on your studies and succeed academically – a school-life balance is crucial, and makes the year way more enjoyable.”
